This paper analyzes and designs a type of noncoplanar slot antenna- antipodal Vivaldi antenna, which can be used in UWB communications. The antenna designed is a special tapered slot antenna with planar structure and is easy to be integrated with transmitting elements and receiving elements to form a compact structure. The antenna has a very good VSWR performance in the band 3.1GHz to 10.6GHz, which is assigned to UWB wireless communication by FCC. The more important thing is that the antenna can radiate and receive UWB pulses with little distortion, which will ensure error-free high-data-rate communications. The other advantages such as low profile, small volume, light weight make the antenna highly valuable in UWB communication systems.
