A new capsule design is developed to produce a high purity ~125I by the irradiation of natural xenon gas. To estimate the usefulness of this capsule, thermal safety and production capacity of the ~125I capsule were calculated based on the design specifications. Computational results show that xenon gas circulates in the capsule once every five seconds, and the temperature of the surface of the upper part of the capsule is approximately 77 °C. It is noted that the maximum temperature reaches to 550 °C at the center of the lower part. In case of 600 hours of the irradiation followed by 102 hours of cooling after the irradiation, the activity of ~125I reaches up to 1,500 mCi containing less than 0.9% of ~125I radionuclidic contaminants.
