In this paper, the numerical simulation and forecasting of dust emission in Dunhuang area are introduced briefly. By using of the dust emission model and the observed data from ADEC station in Dunhuang, dust emission in the different land surface in Dunhuang area has been studied. Combining the mesoscale numerical modeling system (MM5) with the dust emission model, a dust emission prediction system has been established. The system was applied to the dust event on March 19, 2002 in Northwest China. Using the wind erosion model the effect of straw checkerboard barrier on quicksand binding was evaluated.
