In order to study its mechanical behaviour when optimized the electrical conduction, 3Y-TZP/Ni monolithic samples corresponding to different metal volume fraction obtained by a wet processing method and sintered in a reducing atmosphere have been mechanically Studied in tensile tests. It was found that the addition of Ni particles to the 3Y-TZP matrix produces an embrittlement effect in the composites, decreasing the mechanical properties. This fact has been attributed to the weak bonding between the Ni and 3Y-TZP particles in samples sintered in reductive atmosphere.
