Human cord blood (HCB) is an important origin of hematopoietic stem transplant cell. It has a great perspective to be clinical. In this paper, HCB suspension with 40%(w/w) polyvinylpyrrolidone, 20%(w/w) trehalose and 10%(w/w) mannitol were freeze-dried. The recovery rate of rehydrated nucleated cells reached 68.39%. The effects of the cells' livability caused by the stages of the freeze-drying were revealed. After 3 weeks' storage of dried sample at room temperature, the measured livability of the nucleated cells was 52.68%. The results showed that the preservation of HCB by freeze-drying was feasible.
