Nowadays, for the purpose of optimizing die design scheme and improving efficiency, CAE software is widely used in stamping industry to evaluate the feasibility of the original product design. But in practice, the analyzer usually receives a model of the product's final status, which very likely does not agree with the request of practical forming process, especially in a drawing process where the final parts can be much different from the drawing parts. On such occasions, necessary boundary conditions can't be properly set in the simulation work since the model which tike analyzer obtains is not the model in real use, so unreasonable results are hard to avoid. To decrease the blindness of forming simulation work, we began the development of a software system to transform, a product model into a process model. In this system, users can import the part's product model of IGES file which is a standard file format used in CAD sphere and using the functions the system provides to add addendum and binder to get the process model, then export the model of appropriate file format special for the forming simulation software. The following paper describes the design ideology and general structure of the system and introduces the main modeling algorithms used in the die-face modeling functions of the system which are newly invented and greatly increase the convenience of users. Finally, an example is given to show the capacity of the system.
