Strategies and Results for Promoting Participation of Women in Physics in Mexico: Demographics and Short Timescale Aims

We review old and new strategies to sustain an increase in the participation of women in physics in Mexico. We assess the effectiveness of tactics in achieving specific goals, such increased participation of female physicists in scientific events and networks with a gender perspective. Since last year, the International Day of Women and Girls in Science has been considered an important opportunity to empower events of local and national scope and to encourage young students to pursue scientific careers. We compile facts and figures of the past events. The evolution of the gender demographics of academia is presented with data from the National Research System members as well as women enrolled in bachelor's, master's, and doctoral programs in physics.
