Ileostomy as either an end or a loop is a frequent necessity in gastrointestinal surgery. Complications are however common, with skin irritation being the commonest1. Skin irritation with ileostomy is caused by small bowel effluent contacting with the skin. This may be due to an insufficient length of spout or local dermal contour defects preventing adequate attachment of the stoma appliance. This problem can severely affect the patients' quality of life. Revision or resiting of the stoma may need to be performed with all the intendant risks for the patients. Synthetic collagen injections were first used 20 years ago for the correction of contour deficiencies following rhinoplasty , since this time there have been many applications for collagen injections including its use in the treatment of urinary and faecal incontinence and vocal cord immobility . Successful correction of dermal contour defect adjacent to a urostomy to prevent urine leakage has been described . We describe our experience in two case reports of the use of intradermal collagen injection to rectify peristomal cutaneous gutter deformity.
