3D human and vehicle model for driver and occupants posture prediction and comfort evaluation

ABITA2000 is a CRF SW able to position either driver and passenger manikins inside a vehicle cabin. It uses a simplified model of the car and of the human as will be described in the paper. The model could be used both during car design to predict and define the H point position, the internal vehicle layout for primary car controls and seat and for checking the car comfort judgment. The SW runs on a PC platform and has the advantage, in comparison of 3D complex human model, to interact with a simplified vehicle model and to analyse the posture of a database of 41 manikins in less than 10 seconds. The analysis done with this type of model regards the posture overall comfort, the front and rear geometrical visibility, the steering wheel comfort zone, the pedals usability (range of motion and position of clutch, accelerator and brake), the reachability of some car controls as gear shift and hand brake, the SAE eyellipse and an eyellipse adapted on the population used. Female, male population are studied and the secular trend is kept in consideration.
