TRENDS IN TYRE DESIGN AND THE IMPACT ON REINFORCING FILLERS IN PASSENGER RADIAL TYRES

The development of new tyre designs can significantly affect the usage of reinforcing fillers. Changes in both filler volume and filler type are often required. This paper will review some of the more significant design trends in passenger tyres and examine the potential impact of those trends on fillers. The degree to which tyre design can influence the filler volume will be assessed by investigating the filler demand for different tyre types and for individual tyre components. Run flat tyres, green tyres, and tyre size migration will all be discussed.
