By adding extra amount of La to the LaFe_(11.6)Si_(1.4) compound, we found that the stable NaZn_(13) cubic structure phase (space group is Fm-3c) can be more easily obtained by annealing at 1100°C for 50 hours. Simultaneously, a small amount of La- rich phase and the α-Fe phase are found. A clear itinerant electron metamagnetic transition and large magnetic entropy change have been observed in the compound. The peak values of magnetic entropy change (-△S_M) is 48 J/kgK under a magnetic field change from 0 to 1.5 T.
