Modeling Weekday/Weekend Ozone Differences in the Los Angeles Region for 1997

Emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx) and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from both man- made and natural sources react in the presence of sunlight to form ground-level ozone. Since human activity patterns vary between weekdays and weekends, NOx and VOC emissions (and therefore ozone concentrations) may be expected to vary over the course of the week. If the weekday/weekend ozone differences are large, they can influence compliance with ozone air quality standards, in which case they should be considered in the design of ozone control strategies.
