Deformation Behavior of Round Wire in Compression Using Cylindrical Tool and Analysis of Width Spreading in Flat Rolling
Flat rolling of round wire is sometimes used part for a process of wire drawing process. The analysis of deformation behavior in flat rolling is important for the mechanical and electrical industries. Here, in order to clarify deformation behavior of spreading in flat rolling, the compression of round wire using cylindrical tool was carried out. In the region of compressive deformation, the material flows in mostly to the width direction. The width spreading is put in order by the ratio of tool diameter to wire diameter D/d_0. Depending on the larger flow resistance in the direction of wire axis by fiber structure and residual stress, the width spreading of drawn wire is larger than that of annealed wire. The spreading on lubrication is slightly smaller than that on non-lubrication. The formula of width spreading is introduced experimentally for drawn and annealed wire. Moreover, in comparison with flat rolling wire, neutral point exists at the point of 1/4-1/3 of the arc of contact from outlet and width spreading in flat rolling causes mainly in the contact region between inlet and neutral point.
