Pryor to June,2002,the Porcelain Metals Corporation (PMC) wet spray process consisted of automatic electrostatic guns and wet reinforce. This provided PMC customers with an acceptable cosmetic appearance on all the parts we ran through this system. The problem for PMC was the same as everyone in our industry faces:a highly labor-intensive process.Even the flatware we ran through the automatic electrostatic system was labor intensive. As for complex shapes such as high end oven cans or boxes we could not employ enough sprayers to make good parts consistently.Add to this the labor shortage we experienced in Louisville in the late 1990s through 2002 and you have a situation that was unbearable for us and our customers.Spraying had become the least desirable job at PMC.We actually ended up in the position where we were forced to use untrained temporary labor on several of the spray jobs.As we all could guess, what followed was a period of time where we had burnoff on one part and sags and runs on the next part.
