摘要

Compared to pressure die cast components made out of magnesium, mangnesium alloys in metal forming achieve up to 100 percent higher strengths against elongation at fracture,-which can be up to 150 percent above those of cast components. Despite the relatively low utilisation of material and the low characteristic values for strength of parts produced by pressure die casting, almost 90 percent of the magnesium used for the production of component parts in the European Union is processed by pressure die casting. In addition to a low level of awareness about adapted process technologies for metal forming of magnesium, one central reason for this development is the fact that the processing industry does not have a cost-efficient supply of semi-finished products for extrusion, forging, and rolling.
