The Willard CO2 Plant utilizes the Ryan Holmes process technology for recovering carbon dioxide from acid gas rich gas streams. The existing conventional tri-ethylene glycol (TEG) dehydration unit is not capable of drying the inlet gas to the Ryan Holmes process specifications; as a result, an unacceptable amount of water is entering the process section. Excess water into the process has resulted in several process upsets and corrosion related problems in the past. This paper will review the process that was used to evaluate and ultimately, recommend the best feasible dehydration technology available for upgrading the existing glycol unit upstream of the Ryan Holmes process.
