The results of appropriate coating material design and processing conditions to minimize the increase in transmission loss of 50 μm core multimode fiber in premise cables when measured (a) immediately upon tight buffering with a low-smoke zero-halogen compound, and (b) after subjecting the distribution cable to -40°C are presented. It is found that some fiber microbending indicators such as the basketweave test do not necessarily correlate to the performance of the tight buffer.
