The sacroiliac joint region continues to be an area of confusion for most practitioners because of its deep location and unique anatomic features. Additionally, there have been a limited number of biomechanical investigations into its functional significance. Documented pathology associated with the sacroiliac joint region includes osteoarthritis, ilial wing stress fractures, tubera sacrale asymmetry, desmitis, and muscle strain or hypertonicity. Further research is needed to understand the pathophysiology and biomechanical features of sacroiliac joint injuries.
