Hybrid preform multispar structural torque boxes were manufactured and tested. Each part is a one-piece multispar box, approximately 1.52 m long, 25.4 cm wide, and 6.35 cm tall. All spars have carbon biaxial braided sleeving, triaxial radius fillers, and plain weave plies. The skins are all plain weave plies. The parts were manufactured using a resin transfer molding process that included a liquid tackification of the plies and a debulk cycle. A test program consisting of laminate coupon and element tests was completed. Braid lamina tests showed a higher shear modulus but lower tensile and compression moduli compared to plain weave composites. Skin and web thickness effects were observed during testing of the spar to skin joint in tension, compression, and bending. The test matrix for hybrid braid/plain weave perform coupons will be presented and the results discussed.
