Online music piracy by users is generally believed to harm both music industry (through lower sales revenues) and buying customers (through higher prices). Thus, it is thought that stopping piracy would help both the music industry and consumers. But our theoretical foundations suggest that piracy helps in increasing the awareness about the new music and the artists, which positively impacts the sales' revenues generated by music industry.
