IMPACT OF IT INTEGRATION AND JIT PRACTICES ON LEAD-TIME PERFORMANCE

This paper examines empirically the relationships among inter-firm information technology (IT) integration, intra-firm IT integration, Just-In-Time (JIT) practices, and lead-time performance using data from Industry Week's Census of Manufacturers. The results provide several new insights on the relationship between IT integration and JIT practices. First, the study shows that implementing JIT practices significantly reduces lead time. Second, JIT practices have a significant mediating effect on the influence of IT integration on lead time performance. Third, both inter-firm IT integration and intra-firm IT integration are shown to positively influence the implementation of JIT practices.
