The noise reducing properties and the durability of the pavement used the fibrous surface course material called Pavetex (PVT) or Improved Pavetex (IPVT) were investigated by using data of a 72-month follow-up measurement and by conducting some tests under the heavy vehicle load, respectively. The pavement bonded with the PVT or the IPVT is called the PVTP or the IPVTP, respectively. The PVTP surface had been free from damages and had been kept in a sound state after 72 months elapsed from its construction. As compared with the DACP, the PVTP attained a noise reduction of 5dB(A) for the radial tire. And for other tires, the PVTP attained a noise reduction of 1-2dB(A). The PVTP and the DACP have a skid resistance of more than 50 (BPN). It had recognized the necessity of some improvements in order to enhance the skid resistance of the PVT. For the IPVTP, the both of the sound pressure level at vicinity of the tire and at roadside became lower level more than 10dB(A) in frequency ranges of 630-2000Hz.after construction of the IPVTP and passing 40,000 times by the test vehicle as compared to the DACP. The kinetic friction coefficients for the IPVTP were 0.32-0.39 between after construction and after passing of 40,000 times by the test vehicle. The kinetic friction coefficient of 0.32-0.39 is equivalent to the skid resistance of about 58-63(BPN). It is clear that IPVTP has the sufficient effect of tire/noise reduction and the durability for a long term.
