Allyl functionalized polyesters and C-allyl-aryl polyethers cross linked with unsaturated polyesters, bismaleimide and thiol-functionalized polyesters/ polyethes are proposed as materials suitable for the coating of heat-sensitive substrates. The cross linking is achieved by UV radiation. The cross linking chemistry and performance of clear lacquers is discussed. The approach is suitable for acrylate-free UV-curing liquid, water-borne and powder coatings, with low toxicity. No nitrogen atmosphere is required, as the process is not disturbed by air/ oxygen presence.
