The laboratory, pilot line and industrial trials proved that Reflectance Spectroscopy is well adapted to measure oxide thickness. The temperature can also be measured by means of the same equipment. The simple optical head can easily be mounted onto a water-cooled pyrometer tube in replacement of a pyrometer, as showed during the trials at voestalpine. The collected data will be further analysed in order to continue improving the RS method, having as final objective the design of a rugged industrial sensor.
