From this first true industrial experimentation of continuous flatness measurement system, we can conclude as follows: The system integration is not affecting HSM operating conditions. The roll survivability is good thanks to its perfect integration in mill environment, Flatness measurement capability has been proven and opens a way to use the system in a control loop. The flatness control system is operating efficiently by using tilting and bending actuators and the system is well accepted by the operators. The task of the next months will be the integration of final industrial rolls with 28 sensors and a detailed evaluation of benefits we could achieve for the future of Hot Strip Mills operation as well as for the downstream equipment operation. This analysis will-be done jointly with NUCOR on the following points: Management of flatness targets as a function of grades and product dimensions and analysis of benefits on downstream equipment (Hot Skin Pass mill, Pickling line, Cold Rolling,.). Integration of thermal profile in the target management Improvement of flatness control efficiency by acting on upstream stands This analysis will be the opportunity through new articles to keep you informed about this very exciting development for the future of Hot Rolling process.
