Gas-phase Hg~0 adsorption experiments were carried out using iodine and chorine-impregnated granular activated carbons in a laboratory scale fixed bed reactor. To verify the effects of chemical loading contents on removal of mercury, different concentrations of solution such as KI and HCl were prepared then adsorption experiments were tested at different temperature conditions with two types of impregnated activated carbons. The characteristics of impregnated ACs were analyzed using SEM/EDX, BET surface area, and XPS to identify the surface morphology, chemical contents and formed mercury compounds on the carbon surface. Hg~0 adsorption capacity increased with temperature in the case of Iimpregnated ACs, while the efficiency of Hg~0 removal decreased with temperature for Cl-impregnated ACs. Both types of impregnated ACs showed reasonable removal efficiency for gas-phase Hg~0.
