摘要

Virtual Private Networks promise a very a good alternative to dedicated secured networks, that is cheap, secure and easily implemented. However, on of the tradeoffs is the network performance. The increase in processing load due to encryption/decryption, affects the data throughput of the network. This paper looks into an experimental deployment of a network and implement a virtual private network on it, using two standard tunneling protocols: IPSec and SSH. It then compares the performances of the two setups.
