In implantology as well as in accident surgery there are three main parameters on the success: first the immune system of the patient, second the surgeon, and third the tools of surgery. Some years ago we presented at a DANUBIA-ADRIA symposium the introduction of photoelasticity as an aid to train implantologists in order to avoid temperature raise during drilling. Temperatures above about 50 deg C in the bone during drilling lowers to a great extend the success of implants or screws in surgery. Until now the success in the temperature controlled training of surgeons proved to be quite respectable.
