A new monitoring system for gas generation behavior during coking reaction has been established. Coal sample in nitrogen flow was heated with an electric furnace, and generated gas was lead to Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopic analyzer and a gas sensor for hydrogen with nitrogen gas carrier. This method has a good time-resolved of second order, so that a short time reaction of coal pyrolysis can be monitored continuously. Using this system, different gas profiles on coking reaction of two coals with opposite characters could be obtained.
