A critical examination of the Century Dynamics AUTODYNper thousand Eulerian finite difference code for the shaped charge application is reported. We focus our work on four shaped charges, whose key features with respect to this study have been fully characterized, using flash radiography and previously conducted predictive analyses using the Sandia CTH code. The selected charges provide opportunities for examining the accuracy of predicting shaped charge jet formation over a wide range of shaped charge designs using AUTODYN-2D code. Predicted observed jet tip velocities and jet velocity-cumulative mass distributions are shown to agree with experiment within 5%. Accuracy is strongly dependent on zone fineness. We also show that the code adequately treats non-ideal and strong detonations.
