EFFICIENT USE OF COMPOSTING AND BIOLOGICAL TREATMENT UNITS FOR AGRICULTURAL DEVELOPMENT IN SOUTHEASTERN EUROPE - CRETE ISLAND HERAKLION DISTRICT

This paper presents municipal solid waste and waste water sludge productions of Heraklion Major Municipalities' District in Crete Island, in Southeastern Europe, in Greece. An analysis is made so as to manage efficiently municipal solid waste and waste water sludge quantities for Heraklion's regional development in Crete Island in Mediterranean Sea. In this paper is presented the effective use of compost and waste water sludge material as fertilizer for agricultural development at Heraklion's district. Solutions are proposed for agricultural development at the examining region. New opportunities are coming up for high-tech industries to export know-how technology for agricultural areas.
