Voice Traffic Integration in Wireless Data Networks with Channel State Information

The knowledge for channel states can improve the performance of wireless access networks. The fast feedback of channel information was realized in the downlink of cdma2000 1xEV-DO system and it showed great enhancement in terms of total average throughput. Many schedulers have been proposed in this architecture, but they concentrate mainly on data users. The famous proportional fair (PF) scheduler, for instance, is not proper for voice services since it does not consider delay and packet drop constraints of sessions. In this paper, we accommodate voice traffic by the virtual frame structure and propose a simple admission control scheme. It accepts just the users who will be served with satisfaction, which prevents slots from being wasted by voice users with poor channels. Then, the voice service region is enlarged by two-level power control.
