Wear resistant coatings with tailored properties are obtained by Nd: YAG Laser Cladding. Several types of multi-component coatings are produced and examined: (a) solid lubricant reinforced by 5-30 percent of nanostructured ceramic particles, (b) metal-matrix composite with inclusions of solid lubricant phase and (c) coatings with engineered internal structure. Among the applied materials one should note the following: Mo, CuSn. nanostructured WC-Co. etc. The powder blends are injected into a laser beam coaxially providing different mechanisms of 'particle-beam' interaction. Melallographic and tribological examinations were carried out and confirm the advanced performance of engineered coatings.
