Noise Reduction of Swing Compressors with Concentrated Winding Motors

The authors have developed a high efficiency, low noise swing compressor with a concentrated winding motor in order to meet energy saving and noise reduction demands for refrigeration and air conditioning equipment. In order to reduce the noise, the authors conducted a magnetic field analysis and a modal analysis. The results of those analyses showed that the noise was caused by the resonance between the magnetic force of the radial direction components of a concentrated winding motor and the natural frequency of first bending mode of the rotor-crankshaft. Furthermore, it was found that inhibiting the eccentricity between the rotor rotation axis and the stator core is effective in reducing the magnetic force. An experiment was conducted to verify the results of the analyses and a reduction in the noise of the compressor was confirmed.
