Active vibration control is of increasing interest to structural dynamics and control communities. Independent Modal-Space Control (IMSC) is a well-suited approach to the active vibration control of flexible structures. In IMSC, structural modes are controlled independently by decoupling the response of high-order multiple DOF system into several parallel single DOF systems. In this paper, a discrete Modal Filter (MF) based IMSC using optimal control strategy is proposed. A 3D truss structure with piezoceramic active members is developed for active vibration control study. Computer simulation has shown feasibility and effectiveness of the MF based optimal IMSC strategy.
