Load dependent Ritz vectors have been demonstrated to offer great potential in the areas of finite element model correlation and structural damage detection. The methodology developed to experimentally extract these vectors required the measurement of the input loads and the output response. In many engineering applications, it is very difficult to measure or estimate the applied loads. In this paper, a technique is proposed to extract Ritz vectors from ambient test data. Several examples are used to demonstrate the applicability and accuracy of the proposed technique.
