In this paper, we propose an analytic model which can be used to study the interactions between an ARQ (Automatic Repeat Request) protocol and TCP when a data traffic connection includes both wired and wireless links. Based on the modeling, we analyze the impact of different parameters setting of the ARQ scheme and of the radio channel conditions on the TCP performance. We also develop a new ARQ scheme to limit the maximum number of retransmission per packet, which can greatly improve the TCP performance compared with the conventional scheme specified in IS-707 where it limits the maximum number of retransmission per frame.
