Land use policy with particular reference to UK

During World War II there was an obvious need in UK to maximize food production from both agriculture and horticulture, even in less favourable areas of the country. Immediately post World War II formalisation of future objectives for land use led tothe introduction of a longer term and subsidised food production policy for farmers and some horticulturalists UK. Fundamentally this strategy involved the British Government in paying deficiency payments based upon the difference between the average market price and the guaranteed price for the particular product concerned. This guaranteed price was arranged each year under annual price review arrangements put into place by the Agriculture Act of 1947. At this time too there was a considerable supply of food coming into UK from former and existing British colonies worldwide.
