HIV-1 sequences (2 regions of gag and env genes) were obtained from plasma samples collected from patients who have been included in to transmission networks Most of the repeat samples from the same person branch close together. All network 1 samples were classified as G subtype, supporting the contact tracing data. In network 2 there is evidence of multiple subtypes. In both networks across V3 and gp120 gene regions the within-group (years of collection) nucleotide distances show and increasing diversity over time.
