High Energy Asymmetric Supercapacitors Using Organosilicon Electrolytes

In continuation of our previous research on nanostructured supercapacitors using organosilicon electrolytes, which have demonstrated outstanding properties in terms of electrochemical stability, safety and availability, [1] we will present this year our recent results on development of the high energy density asymmetric supercapacitors (hybrid supercapacitors) using nanostructured electrodes of vertically aligned carbon nanofibers (VACNFs) combined with ion-conducting organosilicon materials. In this approach we have focused on development and commercialization of supercapacitors for applications in portable electronics. These micro-miniature supercapacitors are a highly promising new generation of energy storage components for microelectronics, which can be fabricated as all-solid-state monolithic devices "on-the-chip" (see figure 1).
