CONSIDERATION OF CONTROL SYSTEM DESIGN FOR 800 MWe THERMAL POWER PLANT IN KOREA

Many of the Korea standard 500 MWe thermal power plants have been built and under operation since middle of 1990's using Distributed Digital Control System(DCS) and other commonly known technologies. The Yonghung Thermal Power Plant Units 1&2, the largest coal fired thermal power plants(800 MWe) in Korea, owned by Korea South-East Power Company(KOSEP) are under construction and scheduled to be completed by July, 2004. For the first time, by adapting Integrated Control and Monitoring System(ICMS) to Yonghung plants it may render more operational flexibility and efficiency than generic type of control system. This paper addresses the points: benefits of applying ICMS, optimizing control systems, new concept and technologies of local instruments, MODBUS based smart MOV, and emulated and stimulated type simulator construction of the power plant.
