Tire behaviour plays a very important role in vehicle dynamic studies. Because of the complexity of tire structure, some tire models use so many assumptions they cannot represent tire behaviour well, while others are so complicated they are difficult to use in engineering applications. This study presents an analytical tire side slip model with flexible tire carcass which is very helpful for understanding tire behaviour and can be easily used for studying vehicle dynamics. Here, tire contact pressure distribution is considered to have an arbitrary form over the contact patch and the asymmetrical deformation of the carcass is also taken into account. The structural parameters of a tire can be identified from tire side slip experiments and the computational results using the analytical model show good agreement with test data. The model and some conclusions are helpful to vehicle dynamists and tire designers.
