In the study of rotating machinery it is very important to understand the vibrational behavior of rotating parts in order to reduce their contribution to radiated noise. Modal analysis is typically used for this purpose, but most applications are applied to stationary(nonrotating) surfaces. In this paper, a well-known coordinate transformation method is used to transform surface vibration from local coordinates on a rotating disc to coincident points fixed in space. By applying this transformation to mode shapes measured in the stationary condition, the standing wave can be decomposed into a clockwise traversing wave and a counter-clockwise one. Then, the influence of rotation on modal properties can be investigated.
