Autoecology of Erica mackaiana bab. In peatlands from NW Iberian Peninsula

The autoecology of Erica mackaiana Bab. in Xistral Mountains (NW Iberian Peninsula) was analyzed. To determine the influence of different environmental factors (water-table level, hollow-hummock topography, peat temperature, plant community type, degradation level and water pH) on the E. mackaiana cover, transects were carried out along the wetness gradient. Chemical analyses of leaves, stems and peat were used to check possible correlations between several macronutrients, micronutrients and heavy metals from plants and peat. Finally, we compared the environmental preferences of E. mackaiana and E. tetralix in Galician mires.
