The minerotrophic peat bog Bagno Bruch as a potential archive of past changes in heavy metal concentrations

Three monoliths were collected from the peat bog Bagno Bruch located on the northern limit of the Silesian industrial agglomeration in southern Poland. The 34 cm uppermost layer of the peat covers about 200 years of peat deposition. The distribution of Pb, Cd and Zn was variable between profiles, what probably is connected with different type ofvegetation and changes in water level. Atmospheric dust particles ofanthropogenic origin prevail over lithogenic minerals in the inorganic fraction of the peat layer. We need more investigations to claim that this peat bog is a suitable or unsuitable archive of heavy metal pollution.
