Analytical models are defined to simulate the dynamic response of a beam in both transverse and longitudinal directions. Random velocity measurements of the simulated dynamic system were acquired from two different locations relative to the beam. The sampling of velocity from two positions is necessary to reconstruct the 2-D velocity field. The velocity field reconstruction model is formulated and solved as a constrained nonlinear optimization problem. The formulation is also applied to experimental data acquired from a vibrating beam using a scanning laser Doppler vibrometer. The method is extended to reconstruction of the simulated 3-D dynamic response of a flat plate. Strengths and limitations of the method are also discussed.
