Siosolid Is the final residue of the wastewater treatment sewage sludge.It has been produced,in increasing amount,over-all the country.Sao Paulo state is producing nowadays about 500 Mg.day~(-1).The disposal of the material constitute a social problem.A promising way to make good use of it is to take advantage of the high concentration of organic material and minerals and apply it to agriculture and forest soils in substitution and/or complement of chemical fertilization.Potentially,biosolids will provide improvements on physical,chemical and biological soil properties.Indeed,the apport of such foreigner material can alter the original soil organic matter content.Priming effect and increased greenhouse gas emission rates have been reported.We measured the release of CO_2,N_2O and CH_4 during the first six months after biosolid application to a silviculture area.The aim was to determine,initially,the short-term response of the soil microbial activity to this substrate input.
