Through field investigations and sample analysis, soil enzyme activities and the accumulated characteristics of heavy metals m soil from the Daye mineral district were studied. The results indicate that the average value of the total amounts of Cu, Pb, Zn, Cd, As in the mineral soil is 35.1, 16.0, 3.0, 29.8, 1.1 times greater, respectively, than the background value of that area. The soil enzyme activities vary in different samples. Heavy metals in soil mainly repress the soil enzyme activities, urease and catalase are among the most sensitive ones to the heavy metals in soil. Concentrations of these two enzymes are negatively correlated with total amounts of Cu, Pb, Zn, Cd, As.
