Metallurgical wastewater contains many kinds of heavy metals which threaten to pollute the environment. We have studied the treatment of this wastewater by stepwise precipitation and adsorption. With this technique we can recover 85% of Cu and 84% of Ag by controlling the pH and the dosage of precipitant. The sediments can be used as a source of Ag and Cu for recycling. A third step, using activated carbon, adsorbs Au in wastewater, and the adsorption efficiency is about 100%. After treatment, the effluent can achieve the integrated wastewater discharge standard (GB8978-1996).
