Water-rock interactions between igneous intrusions and evaporite horizons

This research was performed in two different sedimentary evaporite geologic settings: one in the Silurian of New York and one in the Triassic of Pennsylvania. Our major efforts in these igneous/evaporite settings were focused upon the geologic ramifications of the contact relationships between the igneous-eventtemperature-increases and the associated resultant petrogenetic interactions among igneous volatiles, evaporites and other wall rock sedimentary minerals While these interactions simply stated are hydrothermal, some of the more thoroughly considered. Results of these types of studies provide insight into metamorphic reactions in the surrounding wall rocks and also provide an analog understanding for nuclear waste management, particularly in evaporite bedded sediments.
